CNY Earth Science Student Symposium

  • The abstract submission deadline for this year's symposium has past! We are expecting 30 student participants from 5 different universities this year! 
  • If you missed the abstract deadline this year, we hope you will consider joining us next April! 
  • All Earth Science (and related subjects) undergraduate and graduate students from any college or university in the CNY area are invited to submit an abstract to present a poster at our symposium. All abstracts must have a student as the first author and must address original research conducted by the first-author student. 
  • Submission is FREE! (Upon your submission, you give the Syracuse University Geology Club permission to reproduce your abstract for the purposes of dissemination among symposium attendees)

Location Information


SU Campus

The Symposium is held in and around Heroy Geology Laboratory on Syracuse University's campus with the exception of the Lava Pour, which is held at the ComArt Building on Comstock Ave. near South Campus. For participants joining us from other colleges and universities, you are welcome to park in Irving Parking Garage, located on Stadium Pl just west of Heroy Geology Lab and the Carrier Dome.

Geology Photo Contest


This year we are excited to add a Geology Photo Contest to our symposium. Any student or faculty attendee is welcome to submit a photo for general audience judging. Photos must have subject matter with a geological theme (people, animals, or manmade structures must not be the main focus, but inclusion for scale is acceptable). Please submit your photo as a .jpg file no larger than 6MB to geology@syr.edu. Please include your name and school in the email. Only 1 entry per person allowed. You do not have to be presenting a poster to submit a photo. Please submit your photo by April 1st, 2013.

Each year we welcome sponsors from local industry to attend our symposium and speak with undergraduate and graduate students about their research and career goals. Some sponsors choose to do this informally but table space is also available upon request for sponsor attendees.
